Wellness Care
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." That saying holds true for horses also. As part of our routine care we provide vaccinations, deworming, Coggins testing, and dental care. At the time of service we can discuss any issues you may have with your horse including nutritional needs, training programs, geriatric care, etc..
Time of Need Care
We offer care for your horse in case of medical colic, sickness, lameness, injury, metabolic problems, or chronic illness. We are equipped to provide intravenous fluids and most laboratory results are obtained within 24 hours. Emergency care for our regular clients is provided on a 24 hour basis.
Pre-purchase Examinations
An extensive physical examination, lameness evaluation, neurologic examination, and drug screen is offered by us prior to purchasing a horse. The information gathered is used by the prospective buyer and/or agent to determine whether the horse will be servicable for it's intended use. The exam often includes laboratory testing, digital radiographs, and ultrasound exams.
Geriatric Care
Aged horses can have sub-clinical health care issues that can be identified and treated before they become a problem. If your horse is over 15 years of age we recommend a complete physical examination and blood testing to establish baseline values.
Lameness Examination
Evaluate the locomotion of your horse. We use a variety of techniques to identify the source(s) of lameness including physical examination and palpation, flexion tests, and joint and nerve blocks. Digital radiography, ultrasound, and laboratory tests help us to further evaluate the source of your horse's lameness.
Standing or recumbent surgery of the horse is performed for castration, biopsy and laceration repair. More complicated procedures may be referred to a specialist.
Uses sound waves to evaluate soft tissues like tendons and ligaments, reproductive organs, lumps, and tumors. It is painless and non-invasive.
Uses x-rays to visualize bone for abnormalities including arthritic changes, fractures, ocd, bone cysts and bone infection. We offer digital and conventional radiography.
Our address is: 1507 Grass Valley Highway, Auburn CA 95603 We are located near Animal Medical Center. We service many surrounding cities near Auburn, approximately 1 hour away, please call for details.
We offer upper airway endoscopy to view the guttural pouches and larynx area in the back of the horses mouth. We also offer gastroscopy to view the esophagus and stomach of the horse to look for abnormalities like ulcerations. These can be done in the field or at our facility.

Our Staff Learn a little about us!

Dr. Kelly Torrisi

Dr. Kelly completed her Bachelors degree in Animal Science from Washington State University, then went on to complete her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Washington State University in 2007. She completed an internship focusing in reproduction (theriogenology) at Oklahoma State University. She later completed a second internship at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in Bonsall California in Medicine and surgery. She practiced in northern California for a few more years before settling into the Auburn area and working for Dr. Larry Goss at Animal Medical Center Large Animal Services for 5 years before he retired and sold the practice to Dr. Kelly. She is excited to continue the excellent quality of care for the horses and clients in the Auburn area foothills.
Dr. Kelly enjoys horse back riding, she has shown in Pony club as a young adult then has since rejoined Horsemasters (adult Pony Club- Gold Country Pony Club). She has ridden most disciplines and respects them all and has found her joy in 3-Day Eventing. She also enjoys crochet and ballroom dancing with her husband.
Dr. Kelly has had some incredible horses over her time as a horsewoman. Currently she is leasing horses til she finds that special one in the future. She also has 2 cute cats, Amelia Earhart and Marie Curie at home.

Dr. Anne Williams

Dr. Anne attended UC Davis for undergraduate and obtained a BS in Animal Science with an emphasis in equine industry. After a year of gutting homes in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina she returned to UC Davis. During vet school she tracked Large Animal, and in 2011 she graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Her first employment was an internship during the foaling season at a Thoroughbred breeding farm in New Zealand. After returning to the States she moved north to Alaska where she continued to practice equine medicine and gained an appreciation of the California sun. Eventually she moved to the Auburn area and has been loving practicing in the foothills with wonderful clients and patients. In early 2018, she has added chiropractic services to her many talents.
Current hobbies involve raising her two young daughters. Pre-child hobbies included running. hiking, back packing, singing, and of course, horse back riding. She has competed in upper level Dressage and goes trail riding any chance she has.
Beau is the reason Dr. Anne went to Vet school. He is an elderly Holsteiner/TB mix that Dr. Anne broke and trained to Fourth Level. His extreme parrot mouth inspired her love of equine dentistry. Her other pets are Coco, a Rhodesian Ridegeback and running partner extraordinaire, and a cat named Maya. She also has chickens and Guinea Hens.

Keri Rose

Besides my human family, I share my home with 1 husky, 4 cats, 4 blue & gold macaws and 1 mini Illiger's macaw.
Monday through Friday you'll find me in the office rushing the doctors out the door. In my free time I'm a wife, mother, and artist. I don't have horses now (hopefully that will change soon) but have had them in the past.

Dr. Allison Williard

Dr. Allison completed her Bachelors degree in Animal Science from the University of Georgia in 2012, then stayed to complete her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2016. She completed a rotating equine medicine/surgery/ambulatory internship at Tennessee Equine Hospital in Thompsons Station, TN in 2017. She is very excited to start her career in the Auburn area, having never lived outside of the southeast until now!
Dr. Allison enjoys spending time outside in whatever way possible: running, hiking, biking, camping- you name it! She ran her first ever half marathon this past April in downtown Nashville and plans to continue training for more in the future. She also enjoys riding whenever she can. Prior to veterinary school, she rode hunter/jumpers in Georgia, but currently enjoys a more laid-back life of trail riding. She is also very passionate about Georgia football (two of her dogs have UGA-themed names) and can be found watching football almost every Saturday during the fall.
Dr. Allison has three dogs-- Sanford and Walker, two male corgi mixes, and Fiona, a black lab/Bernese Mountain dog mix. These three stooges keep life interesting and make great hiking buddies! However, Sanford is the only one patient enough to endure a long run. She also has a yearling paint filly named Arrow that she adopted during her internship.

Bryttany Rains

Bryttany had 1 dog, Kylie and is hoping to be able to lease a horse very soon!
When Bryttany is not in the office answering phones, she is hanging out with her son, watching Dr. Kelly’s baby, cutting and coloring the Doctor's and staff's hair or at the barn.

Caitlin Lighthouse

Caitlin has two large dogs, a goldendoodle named Lemonade and a labradoodle named Breakfast (named after the tea). She does not currently have any horses (has had many in the past) but is looking to change that in the next year.
When not working at the barn or assisting the Auburn Equine Doctors, Caitlin enjoys sailing, scuba diving, sewing sock monkeys and gardening. She also enjoys riding whenever she can. Caitlin has competed in the upper levels in both Three Day Eventing and Jumpers.
